My name is Jen - Passionate cook & health enthusiast with a desire to inspire - lover of life & the beauty of the ordinary
Nutrition, health, active living and cooking are my passion.
Even at an early age I was interested in health and nutrition and wanted to be a doctor when everybody else was dreaming about being a princess or a superstar.
But it was only until about 2 years ago that
I discovered the real power and impact a healthy nutrition and an
active way of living can have on one's body, mind and happiness.
Before my journey I was already a
health oriented and sporty person (at least from the beginning of my teens on). I danced for 5 years, then after I
moved away from my home town I stopped dancing but I would go to the
gym at least 3 times a week for 2 hours, do cardio courses and finish
with some strength building training.
I thought I was a healthy living
person. Nevertheless I was suffering from very low blood pressure,
accompanied with dizziness, fatigue and severe energy slumps.
My journey began when I found Tara
Stiles on Youtube and started doing Strala Yoga at home in my living
room.
It was then that I realised, that
working out at the gym was only a means to an end. I didn't enjoy my
time in there, I only enjoyed the results. Doing Strala Yoga I
actually really enjoyed the movement itself. It took me one video to
realise that I had finally found a real passion and I ended up doing
yoga everyday, because I wanted to and because I loved it. Within a
short amount of time my body had taken a shape that I couldn't even
get close to before.
But it wasn't only about fitness and
leanness. Practising yoga also helped me tune in with my body. I
started listening to its needs and noticing its signals.
This is where I started to dig deeper
into nutrition and what was in our foods.
It was then that I realised that my
idea of healthy back then, was what the food industry wanted me to
believe was healthy.
Yes, I had my five a day, but I had
them from fruits only, vegetables weren't my thing back then, I ate
processed foods, I cut out fats for a very long time, I ate lots of
bread, TONS (!) of dairy (which was the reason for my terrible skin
condition back at that time) and although I wasn't that much of a
sweet tooth my sugar intake was too high.
I spent hours reading about nutrition.
I tried a lot of things – listening to my body and watching how it
reacts to the changes I made – and bit by bit I adapted my eating
to a balanced whole foods plant based but omnivore lifestyle. And it
showed results. My skin cleared up, my hair got healthier, my fatigue
vanished, my blood pressure raised to a healthy level and I had all
this energy which I used to envy other people for. Most of all I
turned from a negative, pessimistic person into a positive, happy,
radiant and content person.
On this journey I also discovered my
passion for cooking.
